The fundamental basis to Radical Acceptance is that all events are neutral
What is an Event?
In Radical Acceptance, event has a very broad definition. We consider all of life including:
- External events from the ordinary to the unusual; from the happy to the tragic to the traumatic.
- Internal events including all thoughts, intuitions, sensations and feelings.
- Patterns of behaviour.
What does being neutral mean?
Not everyone reacts to an event the same way. Even a tragic event may leave one person feeling sad, another angry, another fearful, another happy and another numb. Given the different responses, we cannot say that an event generates a specific felling. The event goes through our perceptions and our history. That means that our feeling in response to an event belongs to you, not the event. The event just is; it is neither good, bad, right, wrong. It is you who colour the event.
